Dodge today announced that two new 2013 Dodge Dart “Special Edition” packages and a new Rallye Appearance Group are available in Dodge dealerships across the United States. These new packages, available on SXT and Limited models, combine features and content both exclusive to the segment and most frequently ordered by Dart customers.
Headlining our tester's options list is its Fiat-sourced 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir four-cylinder engine, which promises to deal from both sides of the power and efficiency deck. Power delivery from the little engine that could is at once impressive and frustrating. It's got an unexpectedly rorty exhaust note, delivers plentiful midrange torque when you give it the spurs and spins with little vibration.
The Dart GT uses a 2.4L, MultiAir2 four-cylinder engine, codenamed Tigershark, which produces 184 BHP and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. It is still saddled with the much criticized dual clutch autostick, which has had teething problems mostly related to its delayed responses to inputs, so if you can drive a stick, you'll find the 6 speed manual the more rewarding version to drive.
For those opting for the Limited models, there's a new $1,810 Special Edition package that adds premium Nappa leather seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power sunroof, racetrack LED taillights, Sirius XM satellite radio, Sirius XM Travel Link, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen with Garmin navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and a universal garage door opener.
