2013 New Lexus GS 350

The Japanese luxury import got treated to a bit of Miami style thanks to the guys at Superior Auto Design. The car belongs to a doctor who just bought it last week and wanted custom class.

The F Sport Package is interesting for both what it serves up, and for what it doesn’t. Buyers get staggered 19-inch wheels, an F Sport tuned adaptive suspension with adjustable dampers, variable-ratio electronic steering, larger front brake rotors, Sport S+ mode for Lexus’ Drive Mode Select and an F Sport driver’s seat.

The front grille has a pinched look to it, shared with the CT 200h and the new LX, and is flanked by LED daytime running lamps and xenon headlights, both of which come standard. Once you move past the front, things get decidedly more tame, everything rearwards of the B-pillar is fairly nondescript. The rear of the GS 350 wraps things up with L-shaped LED taillights and a unique pair of almost trapezoidal tail pipes that are integrated into the rear bumper.

The new GS shouts a very different message. Its styling is now as polarizing as it was generic and noncommittal. The interior sets a similarly aggressive tone and broadcasts its desire for younger buyers with a huge infotainment screen. The quick, surprisingly heavy steering likewise seems tuned to tell you instantly that this is a different sort of Lexus. I did not get a chance to take this all-wheel-drive model to its limit, but found the F-sport version we had in our office earlier offered commendably flat handling.

New Concept Ford Mondeo 2013

Ford has taken the wraps off its latest Mondeo saloon. Previous generations of Mondeo have had a reputation for motorway-bashing anonymity, but the new model mixes cutting edge tech including Wi-Fi and a large eight-inch touchscreen with Aston Martin-aping looks.

Developed under the One Ford strategy, the car rides on the global CD-segment platform and will be available as a sedan, hatchback and wagon. It looks virtually identical to the North American Fusion, but can be equipped with adaptive LED headlights.

Actually, we're just being mean. This is, of course, the new Ford Mondeo, which is effectively a rejigged version of America's Ford Fusion. But in a most un-American twist, the fourth-gen Mondeo gets a teeny tiny three-cylinder 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine. Also, despite being very low quality, the photos also show a green Focus ST, as well as an Explorer SUV, on the far right. The Explorer will be made locally, by the Jiangling-Ford joint venture, from 2014 onward, and until then it will be imported.

2013 Nissan Juke Nismo Launched Tokyo

Nissan has released details of a one-off Batman-themed special edition, the Dark Knight Rises edition, to celebrate the launch of the new film on DVD and Bluray.

The Juke Nismo uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, developing 197bhp and 184lb ft. It is available in front and four-wheel-drive configurations, with a choice of six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmissions. The car comes with Matte Black paint, borrowing from Batman's Tumbler, a shark fin antenna in lieu of the traditional set-up on the Juke, and aluminum bat badges in various parts of the Juke Nismo, including the front grille and the tailgate.

Nissan Australia CEO Bill Peffer told CarAdvice in October that Nissan would wait to see the local reaction to the standard Nissan Juke after its mid-2013 launch before looking at the viability of the Nismo variant tearing up local streets.

Nissan adds that the matt black paint gives "a menacing look reminiscent of Batman's Tumbler" but we suspect the little Juke would be nothing more than a minor bump in the road if run over by the real Tumbler.
